Directed & Edited by British Director BAFTA Member Jane S. Linter "Thread" wins Best Documentary at the prestigious La Jolla, International Fashion Film Festival held at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art , La Jolla CA HOLLYWOOD, Calif. Aug. 5, 2016
On the side of the street representing Heaven a pink neon "love" logo glows while the choir Renda & The Shine Your Light Choir sings their amazing encore version of "Man in the Mirror" . The models make their final walk around lead by Gigi Gorgeous and Nats Getty walking down the aisle in a mock wedding ceremony arm in arm with Getty as the delighted audience takes pictures and video on their cell phones. "It was such a night to remember, the fashion by August Getty was simply stunning. He is the next big thing and I'm already a huge fan. I only hope I was able to convey the message of the LaChapelle and Getty collaboration - the constant struggle between conflict and resolution through tolerance and love in today's modern world"
The camera takes the viewer down the Western street scene with the recognizable trademarks of LaChapelle's famous style giant logos depicting Heaven & Hell on either side. Behind wire fences and caution tape, TV sets depicting "Hell" piled up on one side play loops of Donald Trump and the Kardashians, plastic mannequins piled on top of one another against graffiti walls add to the chaos. A huge truck parked is driven by a model trailer park style with a cigarette hanging out the side of her mouth! A topless Sharon Gault aka Celebrity Makeup Artist Mama Makeup with star stripper pasties, big white hair and makeup designed by Craig Gangi and Anthony Nguyen to look exactly like the late "Devine" . She giggles as she proudly tells us she's " Bringing Devine back! " and then talks seriously about the new DavidLaChapelle Art Bookpublished by Taschen, coming out this summer, with a secret Celebrity star on the front cover...
"Thread" is a personal behind-the-scenes documentary by Linter of an exclusive Live Fashion Installation Event and Photoshoot at the famous Universal Studios, Hollywood. The event entitled "Thread of Man" was created by August Getty in collaboration with David LaChapelle and features his SS2016 Collection of the same name created by August Getty Atelier. The documentary received 3 nominations including Best Editing (by Linter) and best Music . The LJIFFF is now in it's 7th year and has quickly evolved into the annual global marketplace for the fashion film community. Over 80 movie shorts screening over 3 days are scouted by Hollywood and International Agents and Distributors, and filmmakers fly in from all over the world.
"We received a phone call from Beauty Creative Director Sharon Gault around 6.00 pm for a show that was starting at 7.00 pm!" says Linter. "We were expecting to do interviews on the Red Carpet but we got a big surprise!" With a background as a Choreographer in London, Linter is ready for anything. She has worked with such legends as the late Ken Russell for HBO, E!, Style Network, GMTV, UK, Fashion TV, NYC, London, Paris Fashion Weeks, Video shoots for Vogue, Photoshoots for Flaunt with MAC, an exclusive 20 Years Fashion Anniversary Celebration for Cirque du Soleil for Zink magazine, to Floor Managing for BAFTA's Britannia Awards, honoring George Lucas and HBO. Linter, is a voting UK BAFTA member, and all too familiar with the last minuteness that is LA, "this was nothing unusual for me, every job I get is last minute!
The event kicked- off with 500 VIP guests being dropped at a surprise location for a sit-down VIP dinner, then entering into the most surprising and sexiest futuristic end-of-world dystopia scene imaginable! Arriving on the Western town backlot at Universal Studios, the first thing they see is a happy clapping gospel choir singing the famous Michael Jackson classic " Man in the Mirror" This is a unique fashion show installation event and live photoshoot never before seen. "Thread of Man" is a very personal representation of the powerful women who have inspired the designer throughout his life to present day. Using the skin tones of five iconic women as a foundation, and fine Italian leathers, silks and gold lace body-hugging designs, with cut-outs revealing one or both bare breasts the results are incredibly rich. The key makeup is provided by Edwin Sandoval and the hair by Larry Dean McDaniel. In the background we see a huge original Getty Oil logo which gives a reminder of the designer's background. Next to that a large shrine of candles and flowers surrounding an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Even Gettys sister Nats (currently in a relationship with Gigi Gorgeous) is seen as one of the models in the store front with her hand pressed against the windows revealing a tattoo that says 'Lady Getty". The young oil scion at the age of 21 has already made a big celebrity splash when Rachel McAdams wore one of his backless, head-turning numbers to the Oscars 2016 . But for this event there was no sign of a red carpet anywhere. Getty selected unusual male and female models who represent society differences as well as sexuality, and transgender, such as amputee model Lauren Walter , and transgender world famous icons Carmen Carrera and You Tube star Gigi Gorgeous. Other special appearances include Celebrity Makeup Artist Sharon Gault; a long time muse for David LaChapelle she has worked with legends Madonna, Lady Gaga, Myley Cyrus, Britney Spears and the list goes on.
